Autism Spectrum Family Support Group

Dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders

The Macarthur Autism Spectrum Family Support Group was set up at the request of parents who attended a meeting during Autism Awareness month in May 2009 and is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders.

One of the parents said: “The need for a support group is definitely evident here in Campbelltown." The many parents who attended the meeting decided to meet on a monthly basis every second Tuesday of each month from 10.30am 12.30pm at the MDS Head Office. The group does not meet during school holiday periods.

The support group provides an opportunity for parents to share their experiences and knowledge, organise social and information activities, lobby for more services where needed and learn about services and support available for families and children.

The group is open to parents and family members of children with any autism spectrum disorders, including Asperger Syndrome. We invite other parents, those with school and preschool age children to join this support group as it will provide information about a variety of services, access to experts in the field, a link to other families and parents as well as social activities in the future.
