Annual wheelchair basketball challenge

Macarthur Disability Services (MDS) welcomed over 200 guests on Thursday 1 December 2011 to the annual Jamm & Slamm Wheelchair Basketball Challenge.

Sixteen teams took to the court to battle for the coveted title and more importantly bragging rights as the 2011 Jamm & Slamm Champions!

The biggest event in the Macarthur region to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability is a unique way to raise much needed disability awareness and fund the Macarthur Disability Services School Wheelchair Basketball Program.

Participants were treated with a day full of fun, food, music, entertainment and more importantly Wheelchair Basketball. Also there was a demonstration game with one of our national teams, the Wenty Wheelkings.

Event supporters and partners were showcased in front of 200 corporate guests and 100 school students as a community minded organisation with a genuine interest in aiding the Macarthur community.

The goal of this event is to raise funds for our School Wheelchair Basketball Program.

MDS take the partnered wheelchairs out to schools within the Macarthur region and teaches students about disability awareness and the game of wheelchair basketball.

A secondary goal of equal importance we hope is to raise awareness of the abilities of people with a disability and the need to build an inclusive society.
