Haven Project

Innovative mental health family care and respite services

Launched in December 2009, the Haven Project aims to provide innovative mental health family care and respite services across the Camden, Campbelltown, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee areas. The program draws on the lived experience of families and carers.

Haven offers support to carers of a person experiencing a mental illness. The focus is on wellness and recreational activities for carers as a way of improving their capacity to provide care to the person living with a mental illness. In this way we hope to avoid carer fatigue and burnout.

The Haven Project is made up of a consortium of five organisations including Macarthur Disability Services:

  • Anglicare
  • BCD Community Care
  • Community Links Wollondilly
  • The Disability Trust

Carers need quality time out and The Haven Project is designed to provide opportunities to build new and innovative mental health family care and respite services across the Camden, Campbelltown, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee areas.  The Haven Project draws upon the lived experiences of families and carers to effectively target their diverse and changing needs.

The Haven Project offers a range of resources and planning so you, the carer of someone with a mental illness can take care of yourself, and do what you want to do.

We provide flexibility and choice to carers seeking recreational or wellness activities and offer information and support to ensure carers have access to a range of opportunities.  We can also assist with time management and access to family respite services.

You tell us what you need to make your caring role more rewarding.

There is no cost to see a Wellness and Recreation Coordinator, but there may be a cost in activities organised. Every effort is made to keep costs to a minimum.
