The Macarthur Autism Spectrum Family Support Group was set up by MDS in 2010 at the request of parents caring for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

This support group provides an opportunity for parents/carers to:

  • Share their experiences and knowledge
  • Organise social and information activities
  • Lobby for more services where needed
  • Learn more about services and support available for families and children from experts in the field

The group is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders and is open to parents and family members of children with a diagnosed or suspected diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, including Asperger’s.

The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at Macarthur Disability Services. Each meeting there is a Guest Speaker. The group also has special events at Bar Centrale on Queen during April (for International Autism Awareness month) and in October (for Carers week celebrations) and in December (for an end of year lunch.)

During the Covid-19 outbreak the group has had online ZOOM meetings once or twice a month. These have been a great way for the group to stay connected and let off steam when needed, or ask for advice and understanding.
